Fact-check, compliance & competitor research

A sourced review of the client's home-page copy, Alicia Pierce's credentials, the evidence and regulation around ketamine-assisted EMDR, rules for practicing virtually across Maryland, Virginia and DC, and 11 competing providers. Every claim links to its source.

Executive summary

This is a new private website for Alicia's KA-EMDR service. It does not replace therahealgroup.com. Differences between the two (private-pay here, in-network there) should be handled by keeping them clearly separate and explaining the brand relationship. They are not errors.
Fact-check audit (2026-10-02): every cited source was re-fetched and compared claim-by-claim. Errors were corrected in place (notably: the USPTO "Ketamine Assisted EMDR Therapy" application is abandoned; four DMV competitors do publish prices). Anything that could not be re-checked is marked [UNVERIFIED] with the reason.

Key findings

  • Licenses verified (primary sources): MD LCPC LC4796 active to 1/31/2028; VA LPC 0701013427 active to 06/30/2027; DC LPC PRC15502 expires 2026-12-31. MD approved-supervisor status and AASECT certifications are also confirmed. 7891012
  • EMDRIA Approved Consultant not found among 85 Approved Consultants within 50 miles of Rockville, and nationwide directory name searches for "Alicia Pierce" and "Alicia Beltran" return no results. Her old directory URL now returns "Page not found". 11
  • Counselors cannot prescribe in MD, VA or DC, so "carefully prescribed" ketamine needs a disclosed medical partner. 20222426
  • EMDR evidence is strong. KA-EMDR evidence is very early. The VA/DoD guideline suggests against ketamine for PTSD and finds insufficient evidence for drug augmentation of psychotherapy. 142728
  • "Ketamine Assisted EMDR Therapy" was a USPTO application by the KA-EMDR Institute founders (Serial 98844062), abandoned Aug 13 2025, so it is not registered. The Institute still markets "KA-EMDR®", so the naming question remains. 30
  • No DMV competitor combines EMDR depth, a disclosed prescriber partnership, adjunctive "keep your therapist" care, Spanish-language service and fee transparency.

Top 5 must-fix items before launch

  1. Name the prescriber/medical partner and describe the dosing setting and safety protocol. FDA warns specifically about at-home ketamine without onsite monitoring. 1826
  2. Verify the EMDRIA Approved Consultant credential, fix "LCP, LCPC" on the TheraHeal profile, and update the stale AASECT listing (old address; "Telepractice: No"). 3111238
  3. Resolve the "KA-EMDR" trademark question: confirm training or permission, or use descriptive wording. 30
  4. Fees page: add the Good Faith Estimate notice and dispute rights, say whether medical fees are billed separately, and check payer contracts against private-pay. 3742
  5. Evidence and safety language: add a risks, benefits and alternatives block (ACA C.7.b), license-board links (H.5.b), the brief's no-testimonials rule (C.3.b restricts soliciting them) and a 988/911 notice. 38

d. Licensed professional counselors cannot prescribe ketamine, so the site must disclose the prescriber or medical partner.SupportedMD Health Occ. §12-101(b): the "authorized prescriber" list (dentist, physician, podiatrist, veterinarian, APRN, nurse anesthetist…) excludes counselors, and §17-101 limits counseling to counseling and appraisal. VA §54.1-3408(A) lists prescribers without counselors, and §54.1-3500 defines the "practice of counseling" as including "appraisal, counseling, and referral activities". DC §48-901.02 "Practitioner" means those licensed, registered or otherwise permitted to dispense or administer controlled substances, and §3-1201.02 defines counseling as counseling and psychotherapy. Federal 21 CFR 1306.03(a) requires jurisdiction authority plus DEA registration. There is no statute that literally requires website disclosure. That part rests on the ACA C.3.a/C.7.b accuracy and risk-explanation duties. 2021222324252638

EMDR evidence

ClaimVerdictEvidence
EMDR is a guideline-recommended trauma therapySupportedWHO 2013, Recommendation 14: trauma-focused CBT, EMDR or stress management "should be considered for adults with PTSD" (standard strength; Rec. 15 covers children). VA/DoD 2023, Strong for: "We recommend … Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or Prolonged Exposure." 1314
(Implied) First-line / "gold standard"PartlyAPA 2025 lists EMDR as second-line, behind CPT, PE and TF-CBT. EMDR researchers dispute that rating. Don't use "gold standard". 15
Virtual deliverySupportedVA/DoD 2023 recommends secure video delivery of these therapies where validated. 14
"Helping the brain and nervous system process…" (L19)PartlyConsistent with EMDRIA's lay explanation of the Adaptive Information Processing model, which is a theoretical model. Don't add neuroscience claims. 16

Esketamine (Spravato) is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depressionSupportedApproved in 2019. Monotherapy approval came Jan 21 2025. A REMS requires certified settings and 2-hour monitoring. 19
Racemic ketamine is off-label for psychiatric useSupportedPer Foley's summary of the Oct 10 2023 FDA warning, "the FDA has not approved ketamine for any of these indications" (depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD). The exact FDA sentence quoted earlier is [UNVERIFIED]: the FDA page has been removed and the archive copy returned HTTP 429. 1851
FDA warning on compounded and at-home ketamineSupported Details unverifiedFDA's Compounding Risk Alerts index lists the Oct 10 2023 warning on "compounded ketamine products, including oral formulations, for the treatment of psychiatric disorders". Foley: without provider monitoring, compounded ketamine risks "serious adverse events, misuse, and/or abuse, especially where there is home use". [UNVERIFIED]: the verbatim "onsite monitoring" quote and the itemized risk list (FDA page removed; archive copy unreachable during audit). 18
"Carefully prescribed, low-dose ketamine" (L23)Partly DiscloseCounselors can't prescribe (MD §12-101; VA §54.1-3408; DC §48-901.02; 21 CFR 1306.03). The site must name the prescriber and state that they are licensed in the client's jurisdiction and DEA-registered. 20222426
Dosing setting in a virtual-only practiceConfirmThe published KA-EMDR protocol uses self-administered sublingual doses of 37.5–75 mg. State the setting, support person, blood-pressure checks, no driving, and the emergency plan. Mindbloom publishes comparable rules. 271851
(Implied) KA-EMDR is evidence-basedEarly evidenceThe only peer-reviewed KA-EMDR outcome study found (Europe PMC search): one retrospective chart review, n = 8, by the method's co-developers (PTSD score 15.50→9.88, g = 1.01; "larger randomized controlled studies are needed"). The KAP systematic review (2026) found only 2 studies that randomized the psychotherapy component, and neither showed added benefit. IV ketamine PTSD RCTs are mixed (Feder 2021 positive, n = 30; Abdallah 2022 null, n = 158). VA/DoD 2023 "suggest[s] against … ketamine for the treatment of PTSD" and finds insufficient evidence for augmentation. 27282914

Gap analysis: what no DMV competitor does well

EMDR + ketamine, explainedClinics offer ketamine without EMDR. WBMA and EHC list both, but neither explains how they combine or names the prescriber.
Prescriber transparencyTherapist-led KAP sites rarely say who prescribes. This site can lead on it.
"Keep your therapist"EMDR Care Center mentions supplementing current therapy, but no DMV practice markets adjunctive EMDR/KA-EMDR with a referral pathway for therapists.
Self-pay clarity + GFEDMV ketamine clinics publish prices, but no DMV EMDR/KAP therapist does. Only EMDR Care Center links a GFE notice.
Spanish-language EMDRNone of the reviewed pages advertises it. Alicia lists English and Spanish.
Clinician hubEMDRIA and AASECT consultation plus adjunctive referrals: a B2B channel competitors lack.

Prioritized recommendations

P0 · Compliance (before launch)

  1. A medical partner and safety section: prescriber, screening, dosing setting, support person, blood pressure, no driving, emergency plan. 1826
  2. A risks, benefits and alternatives block covering off-label use and early evidence. 142738
  3. Fees: GFE notice, dispute rights, whether medical fees are separate, superbill caveat. 37
  4. Credentials block with license numbers and board links. 3638
  5. A TheraHeal brand-relationship line and a payer-contract check. 442
  6. A HIPAA-grade form with a BAA, no pixels, and a 988/911 notice. 39
  7. A decision on the "KA-EMDR" name (USPTO application abandoned; the Institute still uses "KA-EMDR®"). 30

P1 · Conversion & trust

  • A non-diagnostic "Is KA-EMDR right for me?" pre-screen that routes to the consultation. Only Mindbloom has a quiz.
  • Consultation booking embedded from the EHR, under a BAA.
  • A "Refer a client" pathway for therapists, with a release-of-information explainer and collaboration timeline.
  • An Intensives page once formats and prices are supplied.
  • A Spanish-language summary of the KA-EMDR, Fees and consultation pages.

P2 · SEO & visibility

  • Keyword clusters (qualitative): EMDR therapist Maryland / Virginia / Washington DC; EMDR intensive MD/DC/VA; virtual EMDR intensive; ketamine assisted therapy DC; ketamine assisted psychotherapy Maryland; ketamine-assisted EMDR; EMDR consultant Maryland; AASECT supervisor Maryland; terapia EMDR en español.
  • Schema: MedicalBusiness/ProfessionalService with areaServed MD/VA/DC; Person with hasCredential; FAQPage; BreadcrumbList. 57
  • Google Business Profile: a virtual-only service isn't eligible on its own, so rely on TheraHeal's location profiles and directories. 40
  • Directories: EMDRIA (Approved Consultant), an updated AASECT listing, Psychology Today, Journey Clinical (if partnered), Third Wave.
  • Paid search: hold off on "ketamine" terms until certified. 41
  • Content plan: 12 cited articles (EMDR vs talk therapy, adjunctive EMDR, ketamine safety at home, Spravato vs ketamine vs KA-EMDR, superbills and GFEs, a guide for therapists on referring, one in Spanish…).

Pointers on the client's plan document

An annotated read of client-content-home.docx (about 74 lines, Word H1/H2/H3 styles). Where a pointer makes a factual claim, it is sourced.

Structure
  • The nav lists 10 pages, but only HOME has copy (see claim a). The home flow works well: hook → problem → KA-EMDR → know-vs-feel reframe → what we treat → process → "goal isn't to forget" → adjunctive → fees → CTA. 1
  • Heading levels are inconsistent: "When talking about it hasn't been enough" is H3 while its peer sections are H1. On the web, use one H1 and H2 sections.
  • The bracketed CTAs ("[Explore KA-EMDR]", "[Learn About Adjunctive Treatment]") point to pages that don't have copy yet.
Tone
  • Warm, second-person and non-pathologizing. It uses "may" and avoids "cure" and "guarantee", which fits the accurate-advertising duty. 38
  • Protect lines such as "KA-EMDR is not about taking ketamine and hoping something therapeutic happens." and "Helping the past feel like the past."
Clinical and legal lines to soften or support
  1. L23 "carefully prescribed": add who prescribes and that the use is off-label. 18202224
  2. L23/L55 "when medically and clinically appropriate": good. Link it to screening owned by the prescriber.
  3. L19 "brain and nervous system": acceptable. Optionally cite EMDRIA's description. 16
  4. L57 step names: they clash with EMDR's 8 phases. 16
  5. L77 "Our practice … private-pay": add the TheraHeal relationship line and check payer contracts. 442
  6. L80 superbills: add the GFE notice and say whether medical fees are separate. 37
  7. L81 "where Alicia is authorized": name MD, VA and DC, require location at each session, and list license numbers. 3536
  8. "KA-EMDR" throughout: trademark check. 30
Content still needed for the 9 inner pages (do not invent)
  • KA-EMDR: prescriber, screening, dosing setting and safety, risks and alternatives, session structure, who is not a candidate.
  • Treatment: modality detail, how EMDR and KA-EMDR are sequenced, session length.
  • Who We Help: age range and exclusions (as defined by the prescriber).
  • Intensives: formats, virtual logistics, pricing, cancellation.
  • About: practice story, verified credentials, Spanish availability.
  • For Therapists: referral process, release of information, EMDRIA and AASECT consultation details and fees.
  • Fees: prices, GFE, superbills, payment methods, HSA/FSA.
  • FAQ: prescriber, safety, location, Spanish, insurance.
  • Get Started: consult length and cost, booking tool, response time, crisis notice.
